FLORENCE, S.C. – After splitting two conference road games last week, the Francis Marion University women’s basketball team fell three positions to 18th in this week’s USA TODAY ESPN Division II Top 25 coaches’ poll released on Tuesday (Jan. 12).
Both the Francis Marion women and men will play a Peach Belt Conference doubleheader at USC Aiken on Wednesday night (Jan. 13). The women’s game will tip-off at 5:30, followed by the men’s contest at 7:30 p.m. Live stats and video of the twinbill can be accessed through the FMU athletics website at www.fmupatriots.com.
The FMU women are 11-2 overall and 3-1 in the Peach Belt, while USCA is 6-8 and 1-4. Francis Marion defeated the Lady Pacers earlier this season 69-65 in Florence.
After being unranked in the 2009-10 preseason poll, Francis Marion has appeared in each of the six regular-season polls at 22nd, 18th, 17th, 17th, 15th, and now 18th. Unbeaten Franklin Pierce University (13-0) retains the top spot in the poll for a second straight week. Three PBC schools are in this week’s poll and two are among the other schools receiving votes.
The Francis Marion men are also 11-2 overall and 3-1 in the PBC, while the Pacer men are 9-3 and 4-1. USCA has won seven consecutive games since losing to FMU 83-73 in December.
Wednesday’s contests will conclude a three-game road swing for Francis Marion. The Patriots will host Georgia Southwestern State University on Saturday at 1:30 and 3:30 p.m. and then entertain Columbus State University on Sunday, also at 1:30 and 3:30 p.m.
