Patriots travel to Augusta for key PBC Twinbill

FLORENCE, S.C. – The Francis Marion University men’s and women’s basketball teams will travel to play Augusta State University on Saturday evening (Jan. 9) in a key early-season Peach Belt Conference doubleheader.

The women’s game will tip-off at 5:30 in Christenberry Fieldhouse, followed by the men’s contest at 7:30 p.m. Live video of the twinbill can be accessed through the FMU athletics website at

The 15th-ranked FMU women are 10-2 overall and 2-1 in the Peach Belt, while ASU is 1-12, 0-4.

Francis Marion leads the all-time women’s series 21-16 and has captured the past four meetings. FMU head coach Heather Macy will be after career coaching win No. 99 in only her fifth season (three at Francis Marion).

The Francis Marion men (11-1, 3-0) are off to the third-best start in the program’s history, while ASU (12-0, 4-0) is ranked third in the latest NABC Coaches’ Division II Top 25 poll. The Patriots received votes in Tuesday’s Top 25 poll.

FMU will be chasing its first-ever win over a Top-5 opponent and its first victory over the Jaguars in six seasons. The Patriots trail in the men’s series 30-9.
