FLORENCE, SC – Fresh off a series win over a nationally ranked top-10 opponent, Francis Marion University climbed four spots to third in this week’s Collegiate Baseball Magazine NCAA Division II Top 30 poll, equaling the highest ranking ever for the Patriot program.
Francis Marion is currently 8-2 and will play at Newberry College on Tuesday afternoon at 3 p.m., before playing a two-game, home-and-away series with Benedict College this weekend.
Francis Marion was listed 12th in Collegiate Baseball’s 2010 preseason poll and had been ranked eighth and seventh in the two previous regular-season polls.
Dating back to the 2005 season, the Patriots have now appeared in 82 of the past 88 national polls. The previous No. 3 ranking for FMU came in the May 22, 2006 poll, just prior to Francis Marion’s appearance in the Division II College World Series.
Florida Southern College (11-0) is ranked first in this week’s poll, followed by Southern Arkansas University (8-2) and FMU. In addition to the Patriots, three other Peach Belt Conference schools appear in this week’s rankings.
