Patriot baseball ranked seventh, Forshee gets PBC hurling honor

FLORENCE, SC – Francis Marion University climbed one spot to seventh in this week’s Collegiate Baseball Magazine NCAA Division II Top 30 poll, while senior right-handed reliever Brandon Forshee has been named the Peach Belt Conference Pitcher of the Week for Feb. 8-14.

Forshee, a native of Jacksonville, Fla., picked up three saves in three appearances last week, while allowing only one hit in three innings. He pitched a perfect ninth against Pfeiffer University for his first save of the week, and then earned two saves on Sunday against Barry University and 21st-ranked Lincoln Memorial University.

Forshee leads the PBC with four saves (in four opportunities), owns a 0.00 earned run average, and is fifth in opponent batting average (.111).

The 4-1 Patriots played St. Andrews Presbyterian College on Tuesday night.

Francis Marion was listed 12th in Collegiate Baseball’s preseason poll and moved up to eighth in the first regular-season rankings.

Dating back to the 2005 season, the Patriots have now appeared in 81 of the past 87 national polls.

Following Tuesday’s game, FMU will play at Barton College on Thursday before hosting West Chester University, also ranked seventh this week, for a three-game series this weekend. The two squads will play a doubleheader on Saturday at 1 p.m. and a single game on Sunday at noon.
