FLORENCE, SC – Francis Marion University senior Tereza Sykorova has been named the Peach Belt Conference women’s tennis Player of the Week for the opening week of the 2010 season.
Sykorova, a native of Prague, Czech Republic, posted a 2-0 singles record at the No. 1 position, winning both matches in straight sets and dropping only four individual games. She also combined with Sabina Baberadova to win her two doubles matches both by 8-0 scores.
Sykorova is currently ranked sixth nationally among NCAA Division II singles players and is ranked second in doubles.
She is a two-time ITA All-American and owns a 40-8 career singles mark and a 49-4 career doubles record. This is third time in her career that Sykorova has earned the PBC’s weekly award.
The fifth-ranked FMU women’s team (2-0) will play at Barton College on Saturday at noon. The 14th-ranked Patriot Men (2-0) will also play Barton on Saturday.
The Patriot Women have won 38 of their last 40 regular-season matches against non-conference opponents, with one of those defeats being to a Division I squad.
