FLORENCE, S.C. – Fresh off a win in its 2010 home opener, the Francis Marion University baseball team moved up four spots to eighth in the first regular-season Collegiate Baseball Magazine NCAA Division II Top 30 poll.
The 1-1 Patriots will play host to Pfeiffer University (2-2) on Wednesday afternoon at 3 p.m. on FMU’s Cormell Field. Tuesday’s home contest against Newberry College was rained out and rescheduled for April 14 at 7 p.m.
Francis Marion was listed 12th in Collegiate Baseball’s preseason poll after finishing 2009 with a 38-15-1 record, winning the Peach Belt Conference Tournament, and earning the team’s fourth NCAA Division II national tournament bid in the past seven years.
Dating back to the 2005 season, the Patriots have now appeared in 80 of the past 86 national polls.
Following Wednesday’s game, FMU will travel to Greenwood, S.C., for the Lander University Valentine’s Day Classic. The Patriots will face 21st-ranked Lincoln Memorial University on Friday at 2:30 p.m., Barry University on Saturday at 2:30 p.m., and Washington Adventist University on Sunday at 2:30 p.m.
