FLORENCE, S.C. – Bree Boyce of Florence was crowned Ms. FMU during the annual pageant at Francis Marion University, March 4.
Boyce is a sophomore, majoring in theatre at FMU. She is a member of Alpha Delta Pi sorority, FMU Concert Choir, Swamp Gas, FMU College Republicans, FMU V-Day Student Organization and intramural sports. She is also on the Dean’s List and is an Adele Kassab Music Scholarship recipient. She has volunteered with the Ronald McDonald Charities, Keep Florence Beautiful, Cinderella Project, Children’s Miracle Network, A Choice 2 Make Crisis Center, Leukemia and Lymphoma Society Team in Training, S.C. Law Enforcement Assistance Program, Hope for Haiti Benefit Show, McLeod Children’s Hospital Radio-thon, Special Olympics, Relay for Life, Operation Christmas Child, American Heart Association, Susan G. Komen for the Cure, Let’s Move, Eating Healthy/Fighting Obesity Campaign, West Florence Baptist Church Orchestra and Choir and is a youth music teacher at West Florence Baptist Church.
As Ms. FMU, Boyce will represent the university at a variety of events, including Open House, Freshman Orientation and outreach events in local high schools.
Stephanie Lindsey Johnson, a senior from Florence, was named first runner up. Johnson is majoring in finance and political science. After graduation, she plans to attend law school. She is a member of Zeta Tau Alpha, Baptist Collegiate Ministries, intramural sports, FMU Honors Association and Pi Sigma Alpha. She has volunteered with the Florence County Humane Society, Florence County Solicitor’s Office, Harvest Hope Food Bank, Pee Dee Coalition and the Susan G. Komen Foundation.
Cari Ellen Hicks, a junior from New Zion, was second runner up. She is majoring in finance. After graduation, she plans to pursue a master’s degree in business administration at FMU. Hicks is a member of The Riot club and serves as an FMU Orientation Leader. She has participated in the Relay for Life and volunteered with the March of Dimes.
Amber McCall Hekman, a junior at FMU was named Miss Congeniality. The Fleetwood, Pa. native is majoring in art education. She is a member of the Art Guild, the S.C. Art Education Association, served as secretary for the Art Education Department and volunteers with Art’s Alive. Hekman has volunteered at the Humane Society and the Florence County Library student art show.
The Ms. FMU Pageant began in 1971 and is held each year. To be involved in next year’s pageant, pick up an application next spring in the Office of Student Affairs located in the Smith University Center, suite 205.
