Francis Marion women cagers now 17th in Top 25 poll

FLORENCE, SC – The Francis Marion University women’s basketball team moved up one position to 17th in this week’s USA TODAY ESPN Division II Top 25 coaches’ poll released on Tuesday (March 2).

The Patriots will play Georgia College & State University in the semifinals of the Peach Belt Conference Tournament, Saturday at 3 p.m. in Aiken.

Including Tuesday’s PBC Tournament quarterfinal win over USC Aiken, Francis Marion has won 15 of its last 16 games en route to a 25-3 mark. The 25 victories equal the 10th highest total in team history.

After being unranked in the 2009-10 preseason poll, Francis Marion has appeared in each of the 13 regular-season polls at 22nd, 18th, 17th, 17th, 15th, 18th, 17th, 17th, 15th, 15th, 19th, 18th, and now 17th. Unbeaten Gannon University (30-0) occupies the No.1 position for the second straight week. Three PBC schools are in this week’s poll.

The championship game of the Peach Belt Tournament is set for Sunday at 2 p.m. in the USCA Convocation Center.
