Patriot Women host USCA in PBC Tournament first round on Tuesday

FLORENCE, SC – The 18th-ranked and second-seeded Francis Marion University women’s basketball team will play host to third-seeded USC Aiken for a first-round Peach Belt Conference Tournament game, Tuesday evening (March 2) at 7 p.m.

The game will be televised live on Channel 11 of Florence’s Time Warner Cable system as well as streamed on the internet at http://www.pennatlantic.com/main.php?module=event-results&searchIt=yes .

Admission will be $5 for adults and $3 for students and seniors.

Francis Marion women (24-3, 16-2) finished the regular season by winning 14 of their last 15 games and finished second in the PBC’s East Division standings, narrowly missing out on the program’s third consecutive PBC regular-season championship. FMU also reached the century mark in each of its last two games, the first time the Patriots have scored 100 points in consecutive conference contests.

Junior Shannon Singleton-Bates continues to lead FMU in scoring with a 16.3 points per game average, while senior guard Eboni Fields is averaging 12.4 ppg, senior forward Nicole Mealing 10.7 ppg, and senior guard Shana Franks 10.3 ppg. Junior point guard Robin Colbert is averaging 8.0 points, 5.3 assists, 5.3 rebounds, and 3.7 steals per game.

USCA (15-12, 10-8) finished third in the East Division. Senior 5-11 forward Catherine Cain leads the Pacers with 12.5 points and 5.9 rebounds per game.

FMU leads the all-time series 44-19, including four straight wins. Earlier this season, the Patriots won 69-65 in Florence and 79-77 in Aiken.

Francis Marion is 14-16 all-time in the PBC Tournament, including winning the 1998 tournament. The Patriots have reached the semifinals each of the past two years en route to NCAA National Tournament bids.

Tuesday’s winner advances to the tournament semifinals to be held on Saturday in the USCA Convocation Center. This winner will play the Georgia College & State University/Georgia Southwestern State University winner in the second semifinal at 3 p.m. The tournament title game is set for Sunday at 2 p.m.
