FLORENCE, S.C. – Both the Francis Marion University men’s and women’s cross country teams have been named to the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association’s (USTFCCCA) list of All-Academic Teams for the 2009 season.
The USTFCCCA recognized 62 men’s programs and 101 women’s squads. Francis Marion was one of only three men’s teams from the Peach Belt Conference to be honored, while six PBC women’s programs were honored.
The Patriot men compiled a 3.13 cumulative grade point average, while the FMU women registered a 3.17 GPA. The Francis Marion squads are under the guidance of head coach Mark Bluman, who recently concluded his ninth year at FMU.
Bluman’s 2006 men’s team also earned national All-Academic Team recognition.
For a team to be considered for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team award, they must have competed and compiled a team score at an NCAA Regional Championship and also have a minimum 3.00 team cumulative GPA.
