FLORENCE, S.C. – The Francis Marion University women’s basketball program has announced that 5-8 sophomore swing player Jasmine Williams-Hayes of Yorktown, Va., will transfer from Hampton University to FMU and will play for the Patriots this fall.
Williams-Hayes saw limited action (10 games) for a 20-12 Pirates squad that advanced to the 2010 NCAA Division I Tournament.
She is a product of Grafton High School, where she was a four-year standout. As a senior, she averaged 21 points, 11.3 rebounds, four assists, and three steals per game while earning numerous Player of the Year awards. She helped lead Grafton to its first Group AA state tournament berth.
As a junior, she was named a second-team All-Bay Rivers District pick and her team’s most valuable player after averaging 16.4 points, six rebounds, and four assists per contest.
Francis Marion returns eight letterwinners from last season’s 27-5 squad that ended the year ranked 20th nationally and made the program’s third consecutive NCAA Division II National Tournament appearance.
