FLORENCE – Rusty O. Braveboy of Scranton and Benita Y. Woodbury of Latta, have been named outstanding staff employees of the year at Francis Marion University.
The awards were presented July 14 during the staff awards luncheon, which also honored FMU employees for length of state service. Braveboy is a craftsman for building maintenance and Woodbury is senior administrative assistant in the Office of Student Affairs.
Braveboy has been employed at FMU for almost four years and Woodbury for 26 years. They both were cited for their dedication to their jobs and for service above and beyond the call of duty. FMU President Luther F. Carter presented Braveboy and Woodbury with plaques and $1,000 checks in recognition of winning this annual award for employees. Marion Mayor Rodney Berry was the guest speaker.
A Dillon native, Berry graduated from Presbyterian College and served four years in the U.S. Marine Corps, finishing his final year in Okinawa, Japan.
Berry is the owner of Carolina Bay Clothing Store, a men’s clothier located in downtown Marion. His wife Melia owns and operates She Magazine. Berry serves as Mayor for the City of Marion and the Economic Developer Director for Marion County.
Sheron G. Jacobs of Florence, director of telecommunications and asset management; Howard G. Lundy of Marion, administrative manager; Janet S. McLeod of Scranton, senior administrative assistant in Rogers Library; and Carlton Sellers of Effingham, assistant superintendent of grounds, were cited for 30 years of state service.
Employees honored for 20 years of service include: Bonnie B. Barr of Pamplico, lead custodian for Wallace House; Elenor C. Boardwine of Florence, custodian; Shala F. Boston of Darlington, student services counselor in the registrar’s office; Barbara B. Frinks of Florence, senior library technical assistant of acquisitions; H. Teresa McDuffie of Florence, network switches and routers specialist; David B. Richardson of Marion, craftsman supervisor; Randolph Scott of Florence, grounds project specialist; David Short of Dillon, central receiving and warehouse specialist; and H. Richard Thomas Jr. of Florence, police officer.
Employees recognized for 10 years of service were: Angela H. Bessenger of Florence, administrative assistant for instructional technology and electronic media services; Shayla Campbell of Mullins, purchasing assistant; and Beverly G. Owens of Marion, administrative assistant for mass communications.
Eight employees who are retiring from FMU were also recognized – L. Allen Eaddy of Florence, senior lead custodian( 31+ years); Grace C. Floyd of Florence, printing equipment operator (14 years); Barbara B. Frinks of Florence, senior library technical assistant for acquisitions (20 years); Bobbie J. Gregg of Florence, lead custodian (10 years); Elizabeth B. Jackson of Florence, senior cook (21 years); Thomas W. Lewis of Florence, craftsman supervisor/locksmith (20+ years); Otis Nichols of Darlington, craftsman/electrician (33 years); and W. Calvin Thompson of Latta, manager of material services (28 years).
