FLORENCE, S.C. – Francis Marion University first-year women’s basketball head coach Kate Glusko has announced that 6-2 junior forward Hannah Jones of Ocala, Fla., will transfer from Santa Fe College and attend FMU this fall and play for the Patriots in 2010-11.
Jones played this past season at SFC and averaged 2.0 points and 1.5 rebounds per game for an 18-10 Saints squad that won the Mid-Florida Conference championship and sent four players to NCAA Division I programs.
Jones played her freshman season at Division I Florida Atlantic University, where she averaged 2.5 points and 2.1 rebounds per game.
She is a product of West Port High School, where she averaged 14.7 points and 10.7 rebounds per game as a senior and earned Class 4A All-State honors. The left-hander was also named a first-team All-American and a McDonald’s All-American nominee, as well as twice being selected as her team’s most valuable player.
“We are excited for Hannah’s opportunity to play in the Peach Belt and for FMU,” Glusko said. “She will be a great addition to our solid core of returning players. She gives us added depth in the post and brings a different dimension to our post game with her size and strength.”
Francis Marion returns eight letterwinners from last season’s 27-5 squad that ended the year ranked 20th nationally and made the program’s third consecutive NCAA Division II National Tournament appearance.
Jones becomes the four newcomer to join Glusko’s program, joining two other Division I transfer and one freshman signee.
