David White
White named chair of FMU Department of Political Science and Geography

FLORENCE – David White of Florence has been named chairman of the Department of Political Science and Geography at Francis Marion University. 

He replaces Kevin Lasher, who served since 2004. 

White is an associate professor of political science at FMU. He earned the B.A. degree in political science from Bucknell University and the M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in political science from the University of Arizona. 

Prior to coming to FMU in 2000, White worked in the press office of Sen. John McCain and on Sen. Bob Dole’s presidential campaign. He also assisted in a variety of logistical tasks for the Republican National Convention and the Republican National Committee during the ‘80s. 

White was also a teaching assistant at the University of Arizona. 

His research interests include: American politics (Congress, the presidency, political parties, campaigns and elections and voting behavior); public policy (environment, public lands and natural resources); and comparative politics (U.S. Mexico Border Region). 

White is a member of several university committees and has published numerous scholarly papers.
