FLORENCE, S.C. – The Francis Marion University women’s soccer team will close its 2010 season with its annual Senior Day match on Sunday afternoon (Oct. 24) when the Patriots entertain Clemson University.
Kick-off is set for 3 p.m. on the FMU Soccer Field. Admission is free.
This will be the first visit for a Clemson athletic team to the FMU campus since the Tiger baseball team traveled to Florence in March 1983.
Francis Marion owns a 3-12-2 record under second-year head coach Joel Person, with five of the losses being by one goal. Freshman midfielder Yasmin Bunter leads the Patriots in scoring with five goals. Junior goalkeepers Lauren Vetock (2.40 goals against average) and Casey Durham (2.94 GAA) have split time in goal for FMU this season.
The Patriots will honor four seniors prior to kick-off: midfielder Kayla Denmyer, forward Elisabeth Dobek, midfielder Rebecca Nelson, and defender Adrienna Osorio-McKenna.
Clemson is 5-11-0 and coming off a 5-1 loss to defending national champion University of North Carolina on Thursday. Sophomore forward Maddy Elder paces the Tigers in scoring with five goals and three assists, while freshman goalkeeper Lauren Arnold (2.03 GAA) has played the majority of minutes in goal for Clemson.
Clemson leads the all-time series 2-0-0, having beaten the Patriots 3-0 in 2008 at the Carolina’s Cup in Columbia and 4-0 in 2006 in Clemson.
FMU owns an all-time home record of 98-23-7.
