FLORENCE, S.C. – Francis Marion University freshman setter Nicole Bennett has been named the Peach Belt Conference Volleyball Specialist of the Week for the week ending Oct. 10.
Bennett, a native of Round Hill, Va., averaged 12.00 assists and 1.83 digs per set while leading the Patriots to a pair of wins last week.
She began with 39 assists and six digs in a conference road win at Augusta State University, and added 33 assists with five digs and six service aces in a non-conference victory at local-rival Coker College on Saturday.
The 5-7 first-year player also recorded four kills and registered a .411 setting percentage, while directing a Patriot offense that hit .262 as a team last week.
For the season, Bennett is currently second in the PBC with 10.29 assists per set, while leading the Peach Belt in total service aces (32) and being tied with teammate Riley Forester for the league lead at 0.51 aces per set.
The 12-7 Patriots play host to Converse College on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the program’s third-annual Dig Pink Match to raise funds for and to promote Breast Cancer Awareness.
The Patriots will wear pink jerseys and fans are encouraged to wear pink. Donations may be made on line at https://www.side-out.org/application/teams/team_page/679 . Francis Marion is joining forces with hundreds of teams from around the country to participate in the “Dig Pink” National Breast Cancer Awareness Rally. Proceeds from all donations will benefit the Side-Out Foundation, a national 501(c)(3) located in the Washington, D.C.
Bennett is a former first-team All-State performer at Loudoun Valley High School, and is a product of the Northern Virginia Volleyball Association.
