Patriot Men host Builders on Saturday

FLORENCE, SC – The Francis Marion University men’s basketball team will play host to The Apprentice School on Saturday (Dec. 4) at 4 p.m., while the 25th-ranked Patriot women will be on the road.

Admission to Saturday’s men’s contest is $6 for adults and $4 for students with FMU students being admitted free with a valid identification card.

The game will be broadcast on WWFN The Fan, 100.1 FM, and televised live on Channel 11 of Florence’s Time Warner Cable system as well as streamed on the internet at

Francis Marion is 5-2, while The Apprentice School owned a 4-2 record heading into a Friday night contest at Barber-Scotia College in North Carolina.

Junior 6-5 forward Liki Turner leads the Patriots with averages of 16.6 points and 7.9 rebounds per game, while 6-6 senior forward Simel Boyd is averaging 15.1 ppg and 8.1 rpg. Five FMU players currently have double-figure scoring averages.

FMU leads the all-time series 5-1, including an 82-65 victory in Florence last season.

The 3-1 Patriot women will travel to Savannah, Ga., on Saturday for a neutral site contest against Shaw University (2-1) at 2 p.m.   The game will be played at Alfred Ely Beach High School.

Senior Shannon Singleton-Bates leads FMU in scoring at 19 ppg, while sophomore guard Courtney Mealing is at 15.8 ppg. Four Patriots are scoring in double digits.

This will be the first-ever meeting between the Francis Marion and Shaw women’s programs.
