Patriot Women enter Top 25 hoops poll

FLORENCE, S.C. – After opening the season with three convincing wins, the Francis Marion University women’s basketball team has entered the USA Today ESPN Division II Top 25 Coaches’ Poll at the No. 25 position. The poll was released Tuesday, Nov. 30.

Francis Marion ended the 2009-10 season ranked 20th, but was only listed among the other teams receiving votes in both the 2010-11 pre-season poll and the first regular-season poll on Nov. 23.

FMU, 3-0 under first-year head coach Kate Glusko, will open its Peach Belt Conference schedule on Wednesday (Dec. 1) at USC Aiken. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m. The Lady Pacers (6-2) are listed among the other teams receiving votes in this week’s poll.

Francis Marion is one of three PBC schools in this week’s Top 25. Delta State University (5-0) occupies the No. 1 position in the poll.

On Saturday in Savannah, Ga., FMU will face Shaw University, also among the others receiving votes in the poll.

Francis Marion has appeared in 15 of the past 17 national polls dating back to last season.
