FLORENCE, S.C. – Francis Marion University senior point guard Robin Colbert has been named the Peach Belt Conference women’s basketball “Player of the Week” for the week of Jan. 3-9.
Colbert, a native of Bowie, Md., set career highs in both games last week and averaged 18.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, and 6.5 assists per game in two contests. For the week, she connected on 62.5 percent of her field goal attempts and also recorded three steals and two blocked shots. She moved into 11th place on the Patriot career assists list with 327.
Colbert is currently second in the PBC in steals (3.3 per game), tied for third in assists (4.6 apg), 13th in scoring (12.7 ppg) and among the Top 10 in rebounding (7.0 rpg). She has helped lead the Patriots to an 8-5 record.
Colbert began her week by with an 18-point, nine-rebound, seven-assist effort in a narrow 86-81 loss to second-ranked Lander University. She followed that up with 21 points, eight rebounds, and six assists during a 22-point victory over Augusta State University.
Francis Marion will play a rare weekend road doubleheader with contests at Georgia Southwestern State University on Saturday afternoon and at Columbus State University on Sunday afternoon.
She was named the PBC Defensive Player of the Year for 2009-10.
Colbert is a product of The Academy of the Holy Cross, where she was an All-Conference and second-team All-Metro performer. She played her freshman season at Appalachian State University before transferring to FMU in 2008.
