FLORENCE, S.C. – Francis Marion University presented its 2010-2011 alumni awards at an Alumni Appreciation Dinner, Feb. 10.
The Outstanding Alumnus is George C. McIntyre. He received a B.S. degree in political science in 1978.
McIntyre has served 16 years as a member of the Marlboro County Council, including three years as chairman. For 11 years, he has served on the FMU Board of Trustees, of which he served as chairman for two years. He is a member of the Marlboro Park Hospital Board of Trustees, the Marlboro General Hospital Charity Trust Board and the Carolina Bank local advisory board.
The Clio native is the son of the late John E. McIntyre and the late Jane C. McIntyre. He and his wife Wendy (’89) live in Bennettsville with their two children Janna (13) and Chandler (12). He is owner and operator of McIntyre Realty Company and has been a realtor/broker for 31 years and an appraiser for 25 years. He and his family are members of First Presbyterian Church of Bennettsville where he currently serves as a deacon and Sunday school teacher.
He is a member of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity and Pi Gamma Mu honor society. While at FMU, he served as a Student Government Association senator.
The Benjamin Wall Ingram III Young Alumnus is Johnny Brent Tiller. The Hartsville native is a 2000 graduate of FMU where he received a BBA in marketing. He is owner of the New York Butcher Shoppe and Market and President for Pinnacle Network Solutions in Florence.
Tiller was Kiwanian of the Year in 2005 and served as club president 2009-2010. He served on the FMU Alumni Association Board of Directors 2006-2009 and was chosen FMU Alumni Volunteer of the Year 2007-2008. He is currently serving on the Greater Florence Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors.
He is married to DeAnn Weatherly (’99) of Dillon, and they have two children, Weatherly Ann and Laura Kathleen.
The Alumni Volunteer of the Year is Stephen N. Jones. He is a 1988 graduate of FMU where he received his bachelor’s degree in business administration.
Jones has more than 20 years experience in the financial services industry. He began his career in the brokerage industry joining A.G. Edwards in 1993. He joined Stifel Nicolaus in 2008. He is one of the few professionals in the Pee Dee region to have obtained the coveted designation of CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER.
Jones has worked with many civic and non-profit organizations over the past 20 years. He currently serves as a board member and immediate past president of the FMU Alumni Board of Directors and the FMU Real Estate Foundation Board. He is also a board member and past president of the Florence Kiwanis Club and is a member and deacon of First Presbyterian Church.
Stephen and his wife, Frances, live in Florence with their two sons, Jay and Stephen.
Stephen N. Jones is a native and life-long resident of Florence. He attended the public school system and graduated from Francis Marion University in 1988 with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree.
He is a 2000 graduate of FMU where he received his bachelor’s degree in business administration while majoring in marketing.
