FMU to celebrate Homecoming 2011, Feb. 24-26
FLORENCE – Francis Marion University will celebrate Homecoming 2011, Thursday through Saturday, Feb. 24-26.
The events will kick off Thursday with a wine and cheese reception for School of Education alumni at 6 p.m. at The Cottage on the FMU campus.
As part of this year’s Homecoming festivities, the School of Business will hold an alumni leadership breakfast at 8 a.m. in Erving Dining Hall on the university campus, Friday, Feb. 25. At this event, business alums have an opportunity to network with colleagues old and new. On Friday night, festivities continue with the Patriots on Fire Bonfire and Pep Rally at Smith University Center and Rogers Library.
Saturday’s festivities begin at 10:30 a.m. with the Olde Timer Alumni Basketball Games. The children of alums can enjoy arts and crafts between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. and a family picnic lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. A baseball game between the Patriots and Seton Hill will begin at 1 p.m. on the FMU softball field.
The FMU Athletic Department will sponsor a silent auction from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. on the north side of the gymnasium. All proceeds from the auction will support Patriot athletics. Also on Saturday, the Patriot Bookstore in the Smith University Center will offer special Homecoming sales.
Patriots basketball will take on Armstrong Atlantic with the women’s game beginning at 1:30 p.m. and the men’s game at 3:30 p.m. Admission to the games is free. A Hall of Fame induction will be held following the games. The 2011 inductees are former basketball players Kim Slawson Hawkins and Bob Wilson, both of whom also returned to coach at the university.
