FLORENCE, SC – Francis Marion University senior Oshada Wijemanne has been selected as the Peach Belt Conference Men’s Tennis Player of the Week for March 7-13.
Wijemanne, currently ranked third nationally among Division II men’s singles players, won both his singles matches last week, including a straight sets win over 52nd-ranked Christophe Noblet of Columbus State University. He also posted a 1-1 mark in doubles play, with the loss coming by a 9-8 decision.
The native of Colombo, Sri Lanka, improved his season singles record to 7-1 and his career mark to 52-11.
He has helped the 17th-ranked Patriots to a 7-2 overall record and a 3-2 PBC mark. FMU will play 30th-ranked BYU-Hawaii on Friday afternoon at 1 p.m. in Augusta, Ga.
The 13th-ranked Francis Marion women (8-1, 4-1) will play host to a pair of PBC matches this week: University of Montevallo on Thursday at 2:30 p.m. and 11th-ranked Clayton State University on Saturday at 11 a.m. In between, the FMU women will also play BYU-Hawaii (ranked second nationally) on Friday in Augusta.
