FMU Softball hosts Patriot Invitational Tournament

FLORENCE, SC – The Francis Marion University women’s softball team will host its annual Patriot Invitational Tournament, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday (March 11-13) at the Freedom Florence Recreational Complex. This year’s field includes 12 teams.

Daily admission will be free for ages 6-and-under, $4 for ages 7-to-12, and $6 for ages 13-and-up.

Francis Marion owns a 15-6-1 record and will play six games over the weekend. The Patriots will play local rival Coker College on Friday at 3 p.m. and Hillsdale College on Friday at 5 p.m. On Saturday, FMU will face Catawba College at 11 a.m. and Brevard College at 1 p.m. The Patriots will face Rollins College on Sunday at 11 a.m. and Barton College at 1 p.m.

Junior center fielder Destinea Schneider leads the Patriot regulars with a .382 average and 13 stolen bases, while junior second baseman Ashley Jaramillo is batting .324 with a team-leading 18 runs batted in.

Senior right-hander Cea Knox (9-3 record, 2.27 earned run average) and junior righty Kayla Ellingsen (5-2, 1.65 ERA) have split the majority of the pitching duties.
