FMU Schedules Athletic Camps

 

FMU Schedules Baseball Camp 2011, June 20-24, July 11-15 

FLORENCE, S.C. – Francis Marion University has announced two sessions of its Baseball Camp 2011, an opportunity for young athletes to develop and polish their diamond skills.

The annual camp, for children ages 7-12, will be held June 20-24 and July 11-15 from 9 a.m. until noon each day. Conducted by Francis Marion head baseball coach Art Inabinet and members of the Patriot baseball team, the camps will stress learning basic game strategy and making the most of individual skills.

Inabinet is in his 11th year at the helm of the FMU baseball program, and has nearly 450 career coaching victories. He has guided the Patriots to the 2009 Peach Belt Conference Tournament title, five NCAA Tournament appearances, and the 2006 NCAA Division II College World Series, while the program has consistently been ranked in the national Top 30 poll.

Applications for the camps are now being accepted. The camps will cost $70 per session, if paid in advance, or $80 on the first day of camp. Enrollment is limited. Each camper will receive a T-shirt.

Lady Patriots Soccer Academy set for this summer 

FLORENCE, S.C. - The Francis Marion University women’s soccer program will hold its Lady Patriots Soccer Academy Camp, July 24-28.

The camp is for girls ages 14 to 18. The cost of this camp will be $400 for those staying on campus and $275 for commuter campers.

The academy will focus on the technical, tactical, and physical aspects of the game of soccer. Special attention will be placed on the tactical development of each player within a team setting through game-like situations. The camp will also emphasize the values and character developed through soccer, which apply not only to the game but to every area of life.

Goalkeepers who attend the camp will have separate and specifically designed goalkeeper sessions. They will also be incorporated within the team setting in order to learn about the tactical aspects of the position.                                                                                                       

Third-year Francis Marion women’s soccer head coach Joel Person is the camp director. Other members of the camp staff will include licensed individuals from the college and high school levels, and current collegiate players.

Patriot Soccer Camp set for this summer

FLORENCE, S.C. - The Francis Marion University men’s soccer program will hold its Patriot Soccer Academy Residential Camp, July 29-31.

The camp is for boys ages 14 to 18. The cost of this camp will be $295 for those staying on campus and $225 for commuter campers.

This camp is designed for advanced players at the high school and select levels. A high-level training environment will be created to ensure campers improve throughout the camp. Goalkeepers will receive special instruction.

Fifth-year Francis Marion men’s soccer head coach Kevin Varnado is the camp director. He holds a USSF “B” license and has been coaching at the collegiate level for 10 years. Varnado was 2008 Peach Belt Conference Coach of the Year. Other members of the camp staff will include licensed individuals from the college and high school levels, and current collegiate players.

FMU Holds ACTIVITIES CAMP, June 6-July 1

 FLORENCE, S.C. - Francis Marion University will hold its annual FMU Activities Camp 2011, June 6-July 1. The camp for boys and girls, ages 5-12, is divided into four sessions and runs weekdays from 8 a.m. until noon.

Each of the five-day sessions, June 6-10, June 13-17, June 20-24, and June 27-July 1, is $65 per camper. For those who participated in last year’s camp, the five-day sessions are reduced to $55 each.

Camp activities will include kickball, soccer, softball, tennis, volleyball, basketball, and swimming. Instruction in the various sports will be by Francis Marion University athletic coaches. Activities will vary from week to week, so as to introduce many different sports.

Campers will be divided into groups by ages. The mission of the camp is to promote healthy and fun activities for children.

Each pre-registered camper will receive an Activities Camp T-shirt.

FMU Men’s Basketball Program Schedules Summer Camps

 FLORENCE, SC - The Francis Marion University men’s basketball program will sponsor several summer camps starting in the month of June.

Three sessions of the “Four Great Days of Summer” Basketball Camp will be held June 20-23, June 27-30, and July 25-28 for boys in grades two through 10. The 2011 Pee Dee Team Basketball Camp and Shootout will take place June 16-18.

The four-day Individual Camp will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The cost of the camp is $150 for one session. The fee does not include lunch. A special discounted price of $250 is available for campers who wish to attend two sessions, and $300 for those attending all three sessions.

The camp is designed to provide fundamental instruction in all phases of the game.

For the team camp, squads are guaranteed six games and will compete in a double-elimination tournament on the final day of the camp. The cost of the camp is $475 per team ($425 for a second team) and $15 per player per night for on-campus lodging (for those interested).

The team camp will be divided into varsity and junior varsity competitions. An All-Tournament Team will be selected at the close of the camp.

All campers will receive a T-shirt.

FMU head coach Gary Edwards will direct the camps. He recently completed his fifth season at Francis Marion, a season that saw the Patriots post a third consecutive winning record. He has coached at both the NCAA Division I and II levels and has recorded 460 career wins in 27 seasons.

FMU Hosts Summer Volleyball Camp 

FLORENCE, SC - The Francis Marion University women’s volleyball program will hold its summer camp, July 7-9. Campers may choose to either commute to camp daily, or reside on campus in the FMU residence halls. 

The camp is for players entering the sixth through 12th grades. The cost is $250 per player for residential campers, and $165 for commuting campers. Each camper will receive a camp T-shirt.

The camp is designed to provide instruction for all of the skills of the game of volleyball, in addition to team defensive and offensive systems.

FMU women’s volleyball coach Paul MacDonald is the camp director. He has guided FMU to an NCAA National Tournament appearance and earned Peach Belt Conference Coach of the Year honors. He has extensive camp experience, and has directed the Florence Juniors Volleyball Club for five years.

FMU Tennis Camps Set For June 13-17 and July 11-15 

FLORENCE, S.C. - Francis Marion University has scheduled two sessions of its annual Tennis Camp 2011, June 13-17 and July 11-15, for boys and girls ages 8 to 18.

The camp will be held Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. until noon on the Kassab Courts on the FMU campus.

The cost will be $60 per camper. Enrollment is limited. Each camper will receive a T-shirt. 

FMU men’s and women’s tennis coach Garth Thomson is the camp coordinator and instructor. A native of Zimbabwe, Thomson is a graduate of Francis Marion and a former two-time All-American during his collegiate playing career. Five times he has earned Peach Belt Conference “Coach of the Year” honors. The 19th-year coach has led the FMU men to a 274-133 record and 14 NCAA Division II national tournament appearances, and guided the Patriot women to a 245-162 mark and 10 national tournament berths.

FMU to host Women’s Basketball Team & Individual Camps 

FLORENCE, S.C. – The Francis Marion University women’s basketball program has set the dates for its annual Team and Individual Summer Camps for 2011. A pair of two-day Team Camps will be held on June 7-8 and June 14-15, while two one-day sessions of the Individual Camp will be held June 6 and June 25.

The cost of the Team Camp will be a $75 team deposit and $20 per player. Each team will be guaranteed a minimum of six games. Play will be divided into varsity, junior varsity, and middle school levels. There is also a one-day Team Camp option.

The Individual Camp, for players in grades five through 12, will be held from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. The cost will be $75 per camper. Instruction will be given by skill level and will be in a small group environment. Campers will receive a T-shirt.

FMU head coach Kate Glusko, who recently completed her first season at Francis Marion and took the Patriots to the NCAA Tournament, will direct the camps. She is a graduate of West Virginia University where she played on two squads that advanced to post-season play. Other members of her staff will also assist with the camps.
