FLORENCE, SC – Francis Marion University sophomore Tyler Waters has earned All-Region honors from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) for his performance this spring.
A total of 1,250 athletes, men and women, make up the inaugural outdoor track & field All-Region squad. The top five from each region in individual events and each member of a relay ranked in the region’s top three earn the All-Region distinction for the 2011 outdoor season.
Waters, a native of Clover, S.C., was honored for the high jump.
He finished as the runner-up at the Palmetto Classic with a high jump of 2.02 meters (6-7.5”) which was then a personal best. Two weeks later, he took third at the Weems Baskin Invitational Meet, losing only to the reigning Big South champion and to an SEC athlete.
Waters would close out his 2011 season with a new personal-best jump of 2.05 meters (6-8.75”), making him the South Carolina state champion.
Waters was one of 24 male athletes from the Peach Belt Conference to earn All-Region recognition and one of 25 Division II male athletes from Palmetto State institutions.
He is a product of Clover High School.
