FLORENCE, S.C. – Francis Marion University senior designated hitter Chris Honeycutt was named to the 2011 Peach Belt Conference All-Tournament Team following the conclusion of the 2011 edition, held in Columbus, Ga.
The nine-player squad was announced following the championship game on Thursday afternoon.
In three tournament games, Honeycutt batted .625 (5-for-8) with three runs scored, two doubles, a home run, and eight runs batted in.
In Francis Marion’s tournament opener against Augusta State University, the Fort Mill native was 3-for-3 with a double and two RBIs. In the Patriots’ 6-2 win over 15th-ranked Georgia College on Monday, he delivered a key 2-out, 2-run, pinch-hit double in the top of the ninth inning. He then drove in all of FMU’s runs in a 6-4 loss to ASU that eliminated the Patriots on Tuesday.
The ninth-ranked Patriots are awaiting Sunday evening’s announcement of the Division II National Tournament field to see if they will receive an at-large invitation.
Honeycutt is a product of Fort Mill High School.
