FLORENCE, SC – Francis Marion University volleyball finally returns home this weekend, while the men’s and women’s soccer and tennis squads are in action off campus.
FMU opens their Peach Belt Conference volleyball slate with matches on Friday and Saturday (Sept. 23 & 24). The 4-6 Patriots begin the weekend Friday with a showdown against the Lander University Bearcats (6-6) at 7 p.m., followed by a Saturday contest with the USC Aiken Pacers (5-8) at 2 p.m. Admission to both matches is free.
This will be the first match for the Patriots at home since they hosted the FMU Volleyball Invitational on the first weekend of September.
The Patriots women’s soccer team has a double-dip this weekend. They play matches at Temple University (2-5-0) and at the United States Naval Academy (6-3-2). The match against the Owls originally set for 4 p.m. on Friday, has been moved up to a 1 p.m. kickoff and has been moved to YSC Sports in Wayne, Pa., due to inclement weather in Friday’s forecast for Philadelphia. Francis Marion will then take on Navy, Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. in Annapolis, Md.
The men’s soccer team (1-6-0) travels to Morrow, Ga., to take on the 15th-ranked Clayton State University Lakers (5-2-0) in a Peach Belt contest, Saturday at 6 p.m.
Finally, FMU men’s and women’s tennis will serve as hosts for the USTA/ITA Southeast Regional Tournament at the Palmetto Tennis Center in Sumter, S.C. The tournament runs from Friday through Monday.
