FLORENCE, S.C. – The Francis Marion University volleyball team will face third-seeded UNC Pembroke in the quarterfinal round of the 2011 Peach Belt Conference Volleyball Tournament, Friday afternoon (Nov. 11) at 3 p.m.
The tournament is being hosted on the campus of Augusta State University in the George A. Christenberry Fieldhouse. Admission is $5 for adults, $3 for children and senior citizens, and students from PBC institutions are admitted free with a valid ID card.
The 12-17 Patriots are seeded sixth, while UNCP owns a 15-5 mark. The two squads split their regular-season series with each team winning 3-0 on their home floor. Francis Marion leads the all-time series 42-29.
Francis Marion owns an all-time mark of 21-21 in Peach Belt Tournament play, including winning the 1997, 1998, and 2005 titles and reaching the championship match on three other occasions.
The Patriots’ offensive attack is led by senior Ashlee Crook, who stands ninth in the PBC with 2.69 kills per set. Sophomore setter Nicole Bennett ranks eighth in the conference at 8.30 assists per set. Defensively, senior libero Hallie Legg ranks sixth with 4.55 digs per set and senior middle blocker Danielle Parker is fourth in blocks per set at 0.90.
The tournament is a single-elimination format. The winners of Friday’s four quarterfinal matches will advance to the semifinals in Christenberry Fieldhouse on Saturday at 4 and 6 p.m., with the championship match set for Sunday at 2 p.m.
