Patriots look to sink Pirates in PBC twinbill on Saturday

FLORENCE, SC – The Francis Marion University men’s and women’s basketball teams will return to Peach Belt Conference action on Saturday afternoon (Dec. 17) with a road doubleheader at Armstrong Atlantic State University.

The women’s game will tip-off at 1:30 p.m. in Armstrong’s Alumni Arena, followed by the men’s contest at 3:30 p.m.

The Francis Marion women (2-4, 0-2) are led by sophomore guard Emilee Dunton (10.8 ppg) and junior point guard Carmella Thompson (8.3 ppg, 9.3 rpg, 4.5 apg).

The Armstrong women are 6-2 overall and 1-1 in the PBC. The Pirates feature the nation’s top rebounder in Mauri Wells at 15.5 rebounds per contest.

The Patriot men (5-4, 1-1) are paced by sophomore 6-3 guard Evrik Gary (15.7 ppg), who leads the nation in free throw shooting (42 of 42); senior 6-5 forward Liki Turner (14.6 ppg, 8.3 rpg); and junior 6-6 forward Zamarius McLendon (11.9 ppg, 8.4 rpg).

The Armstrong men (4-4, 1-1) lead the conference, and are ranked third nationally, in scoring offense at 93.2 points per game. 

Francis Marion leads the women’s all-time series 21-15, including four consecutive Patriot victories. FMU trails in the men’s series 25-15.
