FLORENCE, SC – For the second time this season, Francis Marion University senior forward Liki Turner has been named the Peach Belt Conference Player of the Week, this time for the week of Jan. 23-29.
Turner, a 6-5 native of Richmond, Va., averaged 18.3 points, 9.3 rebounds, and 2.7 assists per game in three contests last week. He connected on 50 percent of his shots (20-of-40) and hit 72.2 percent of his free throws.
He tallied 15 points, seven rebounds, and two assists in a non-conference victory over Johnson & Wales University and then registered a 25-point and 13-rebound afternoon in a PBC road win at Georgia Southwestern State University. He concluded his week with 15 points, eight rebounds, and five assists in a narrow three-point loss at Columbus State University.
He currently ranks eighth in the Peach Belt in scoring at 17.2 ppg, third in rebounding at 9.1 rpg, and 17th in free throw percentage at 77.3 percent. He has recorded seven double-doubles and leads the Peach Belt in free throws made (109).
Last season, Turner set FMU records for free throws made (153) and attempted (188) en route to earning All-PBC honors. Prior to this year, he was named to the pre-season All-Conference team and was an honorable mention pick to the Sporting News Preseason NCAA Division II All-America squad.
The Patriots are currently 12-8 overall and 6-5 in the PBC, good for fourth place in the Peach Belt’s East Division standings. FMU will play host to third-place UNC Pembroke on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
Turner played his first two seasons at Division II Shepherd College, before transferring to Francis Marion. He owns career totals of 1,589 points and 861 rebounds.
He is a product of Benedictine High School.
He previously earned conference Player of the Week honors for Dec. 12-18.
