FLORENCE, SC – Francis Marion University sophomore guard Evrik Gary has been named the Peach Belt Conference Player of the Week for the week of Jan. 9-15.
Gary, a 6-3 native of Camden, S.C., averaged 24 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 2.5 steals in two games last week. He tallied 16 points and eight rebounds in an 11-point home win over 20th-ranked University of Montevallo and then registered a career-high 32 points with six rebounds in a conference road win at Flagler College.
For the two games, Gary shot 46.4 percent from the field, including 7-of-12 from three-point territory, and was 15-of-19 at the foul line. He tied a school record by canning all five of his three-point attempts in the win over Flagler.
He currently ranks seventh in the Peach Belt in scoring at 17.3 ppg, is second in free throw percentage at 87.6 percent, and lists 10th in three-point percentage shooting at 40.9 percent. He is also averaging 4.8 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game. Three times this season he has established new career highs for points.
Including Monday night’s road win at North Georgia, Gary is averaging 25.5 points and 7.3 rebounds per game over his last four outings.
The Patriots, 9-6 overall and 5-3 in the PBC, will host three games in a span of six days, beginning with Friday’s 7:30 p.m. match-up with Georgia College. FMU will also host non-conference opponents College of Coastal Georgia on Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. and Johnson & Wales University on Jan. 25 at 7 p.m.
Gary was a two-time All-State performer at Camden High School, and in less than two seasons at the collegiate level has amassed 566 points and shot 88.8 percent from the free throw stripe.
