Patriots sign North Augusta midfielder at early signing period

FLORENCE, S.C.- Francis Marion University women’s soccer head coach Joel Person has announced the signing of Arianna Pierner of North Augusta, S.C., to a national letter of intent during the recent early signing period.

Pierner, 5-3, is a senior at North Augusta High School, where she plays for coach Matt Sawicz. Last year as a junior, she scored 15 goals and recorded five assists as the Yellow Jackets posted a 9-11-1 record. She earned All-Region, All-Area, and team most valuable player honors, and was also named to the All-Tournament Team at the 2011 Taco Bell Viking Cup.

She also garnered honorable mention All-Area recognition as a freshman in 2009.

A cross country runner for the Yellow Jackets, she was that squad’s MVP as a sophomore.

Pierner has also played for the South Carolina United Football Club, and has been a member of the state ODP team.

“Ari is a good athlete and an extremely hard worker,” Person said. “She is very technical on the ball, has good vision in the midfield, and can distribute the ball effectively. She also performs well in the classroom. We are very excited to sign an in-state product, especially one that has played at such a high level at both the prep and club stages.”

The Patriots must replace only two seniors off this past season’s 4-13-1 squad.
