FMU hosts hoops and hardball tripleheader on Wednesday

FLORENCE, SC – The Francis Marion University baseball and men’s and women’s basketball teams will all be in action at home on Wednesday (Feb. 8). 

The nationally-ranked Patriots baseball squad (1-1) will entertain Newberry College at 3 p.m. on Cormell Field. General admission to the game is $8 for adults and $5 for students (FMU students are admitted free with ID).

Sophomore right-hander Jeffrey Stoner, an All-Peach Belt Conference selection as a freshman with a 9-0 record, will be the Patriots’ probable starter against the Wolves.

Later on Wednesday, both FMU basketball squads will play non-conference foes. The Francis Marion women (6-14) will play host to Morris College (1-18) at 5:30 p.m., followed by the Patriot men (13-9) battling Allen University (3-19) at 7:30 p.m. in the Smith University Center. General admission to the game is $8 for adults and $5 for students (FMU students are admitted free with ID). 

Both contests will be broadcast on WWRK 105.9 FM, WWRK 1400 AM, and WDSC 800 AM and will be televised live on Channel 11 of Florence’s Time Warner Cable system as well as streamed on the internet at

Francis Marion holds the all-time series lead heading into all three contests on Wednesday: 44-35 in baseball versus Newberry, 9-1 in women’s basketball against Morris, and 20-6 in men’s basketball versus Allen.

On the hardwood court, sophomore guard Brittany Christian continues to lead the FMU women with an 11.3 points per game average, while senior forward Liki Turner paces the Patriot men with averages of 17 points and 8.9 rebounds per game.
