FLORENCE, SC – The Francis Marion University softball team will host a trio of key Peach Belt Conference doubleheaders over the coming five days, beginning with a twinbill against conference-leading Augusta State University on Wednesday (March 21).
The doubleheader will begin at 1:30 p.m. on the FMU Softball Field and admission is free. Please note that some earlier schedules had the first game starting at 3:30 p.m. but that has been changed
Francis Marion is 24-8 overall and 4-2 in the PBC, which places the Patriots in fourth place. FMU has won 13 of its last 14 contests and already equaled its win total of the entire 2011 season. ASU is 25-7 overall and 6-2 in the Peach Belt.
Junior third baseman Tristan Faile leads FMU at the plate with a .457 average, which ranks 31st nationally. She has hit six home runs and driven in 29 runs. Lead-off batter Sara Broderick is hitting .396, while senior second baseman Ashley Jaramillo owns a .321 average with six homers and a team-leading 32 RBIs.
Right-handers Katie Carnes (9-3 record, 1.64 earned run average), Kayla Ellingsen (8-3, 2.47), and Taylor Luff (6-2, 2.10) have handled the majority of the Patriot pitching duties. As a team, FMU ranks 33rd nationally in team ERA at 2.05.
The Patriots also ranked 44th in team batting average (.320) and 52nd in team fielding percentage (.963).
Following Wednesday’s doubleheader, Francis Marion will play host to 11th-ranked Armstrong Atlantic State University on Saturday at 2 p.m. and Flagler College on Sunday at noon.
The Patriots will celebrate Professor Day on Wednesday, when they will honor the instructors on the FMU campus. Saturday will be Youth Day and Sunday will be Breast Cancer Awareness Day.
