FMU’s McCallister named PBC Player of the Week

FLORENCE, SC – Francis Marion University senior second basemen Brock McCallister has been named the Peach Belt Conference baseball Player of the Week for the week of Feb. 27-March 4.

A native of Laurel, Md., McCallister had five straight multi-hit games last week for the Patriots, batting .500 (12-for-24) with 11 runs batted in.  In a three-game series against nationally ranked North Georgia, the 5-9 middle infielder batted 7-for-15 with three runs scored and eight RBIs.

He started the week with five hits, including two doubles, against St. Augustine’s College in a doubleheader sweep for FMU. In the second game with North Georgia, he went 2-for-5 with two doubles and four runs batted in, after registering two hits and three RBIs in the series opener. He only made one error in 24 chances at second base, while slugging .750 with one stolen base.

McCallister is currently fourth in the PBC in RBIs (22), eighth in doubles (6), and ninth in batting average (.402), and ranks second nationally in total hits.

The 12-9 Patriots travel to take on Augusta State University in Peach Belt action this weekend. The series starts a single game on Saturday (March 10) at 2 p.m. and concludes with a doubleheader on Sunday at noon.

McCallister is a graduate of DeMatha Catholic High School and transferred to FMU in 2010 from Frederick Community College.
