FLORENCE, SC – The eighth-ranked Francis Marion University baseball squad has announced that a previously rained out contest against Winston-Salem State University has been rescheduled for Saturday, May 5.
First pitch will be at 6 p.m. in the new Cormell Field at Sparrow Stadium. Admission is $8 for adults and $5 for students (FMU students are admitted free with ID).
The game was postponed on April 5.
Francis Marion will be returning to action following a two-week break for exams. The Patriots have won 21 of their last 26 contests, and own a 33-14 record. The Patriots are also ranked fifth in the most recent College Baseball Lineup poll, 16th in the D2 Baseball poll, and 23rd in the NCBWA poll.
Winston-Salem State (34-17) recently captured its second consecutive CIAA Tournament title and an automatic bid to the NCAA Division II Tournament.
Last year in the first-ever meeting between the two programs, FMU claimed a shutout win as right-hander Don Sandifer tossed a no-hitter.
Following the May 5 contest, the Patriots will head to Columbus, Ga., for the 2012 Peach Belt Conference Tournament, to be held May 9-13 at Golden Park. Francis Marion will be either the first or second seed from the East Division depending on conference outcomes this weekend. Entering the weekend, FMU (19-10) was second in the East one game behind division leader Armstrong Atlantic State University (19-8).
