FLORENCE, SC – Francis Marion University junior catcher Olivia Ferguson has been named the Peach Belt Conference softball Player of the Week for the week of April 2-8.
A native of Roanoke, Va., Ferguson batted .400 as the Patriots swept a conference doubleheader from UNC Pembroke. She hit a two-run home run in the opener as the Patriots won 3-0 and contributed a two-run single to FMU’s 8-0 win in game two. She scored three runs and also handled a Patriot pitching staff that allowed only a combined four hits in the twinbill.
For the season, Ferguson is batting .303 with two homers and 13 RBIs. She has a .398 on-base percentage and a .461 slugging percentage. Behind the plate, she has thrown out a quarter of the runners attempting to steal against her (8-of-32) and has committed only two errors.
The 28-12 Patriots will play a non-conference doubleheader at Pfeiffer University on Tuesday at 3 p.m. Francis Marion will play a pair of PBC road doubleheaders this weekend: at Georgia Southwestern State University on Saturday at 1 p.m. and at Columbus State University on Sunday at noon.
