FLORENCE, S.C. – Mona Blauen, a junior on the Francis Marion University women’s tennis team, has been named to the 2012 Capital One Academic All-District III At-Large Team.
A native of Cologne, Germany, Blauen has compiled a 3.71 grade point average as a management major. A first-team selection, she now becomes eligible to earn Academic All-American honors, with voting to be done in the near future.
Blauen registered an 18-1 singles record at the No.2 position, losing only three sets all season, and is 22nd in the most recent NCAA Division II national singles rankings. She also recorded a 19-3 doubles mark at the No.1 spot and is ranked seventh among Division II duos. En route to earning first-team All-Peach Belt Conference honors, she posted identical 11-1 records in both singles and doubles play for 2012.
She helped lead Francis Marion to an 18-4 record, a Top 10 national ranking, and the program’s sixth NCAA national tournament bid in the past seven seasons. The Patriots lost in the Southeast Regional title match.
Off the court, Blauen has twice been named to the PBC Presidential Honor Roll (2010, 2011) and three times to the FMU Swamp Fox Athletic-Academic Honor Roll. She is a member of Chi Alpha Sigma, national college athlete honor society, as well as Beta Gamma Sigma honor society. She earned an ADA Academic Achievement Award in 2011.
To be eligible for the Capital One Academic program, a student-athlete must be a starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, and have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings.
