FLORENCE, S.C. – Four Francis Marion University players are listed among the national leaders in the final 2012 NCAA Division II softball statistical report, while the Patriot squad is ranked highly in several team categories.
In the individual reports, sophomore right-handed pitcher Taylor Luff, a native of Bonneau, S.C., ranked 15th in strikeouts per nine innings (8.9), 27th in fewest hits allowed per nine innings (4.75), 92nd in total strikeouts (135), and 96th in earned run average (2.11). Freshman righty Katie Carnes (Pageland, S.C.) was listed 51st in fewest hits allowed per nine innings (5.31).
Sophomore outfielders Sara Broderick (Sunrise, Fla.) and Jazz Holliday (Florence, S.C.) both ranked 98th in triples with three apiece.
In the team rankings, the Patriot women ranked 39th in earned run average (2.09), 69th in win-loss percentage (31-20 record), 98th in triples per game (0.18), and 107th in both team batting average (.291) and stolen bases per game (0.92).
FMU registered its twelfth 30-win campaign in the past 15 seasons, while also opening up its new stadium in April.
Approximately 300 schools participate in Division II softball.
