FMU announces new faculty members

Officials at Francis Marion University have announced the addition of 21 new full-time faculty members for the 2012-13 school year.

Dr. Ginger L. Bryngelson of Clemson has joined the faculty as an assistant professor of physics. She earned the Ph.D. in physics and astronomy from Clemson University; the M.S. in physics from Clemson University; and the B.S. in physics from Northern Illinois University.

Karenmarie M. Davis of Florence has joined the faculty as an instructor of nursing. She earned the BSN from the Medical University of South Carolina (FMU) and the M.S. in nursing education from MUSC.

Tracy Privette George of Latta has joined the faculty as an instructor of nursing. She earned the M.S. in nursing (family nurse practitioner program) from Vanderbilt University School of Nursing and the B.S. in biology from Davidson College.

Dr. Juliet M. Hahn of Columbia has joined the faculty as an assistant professor of chemistry. She earned the Ph.D. in organic chemistry from State University of New York, and the B.S. in chemistry from USC.

Dr. Deborah L. Hopla of Florence has joined the faculty as an assistant professor of nursing and coordinator of the FNP Track/MSN program. She earned the DNP and the M.S. from the University of South Carolina; the BSN from MUSC (FMU); and the ADN from West Georgia College.

Dr. Callum B. Johnston of Alexandria, La. has joined the faculty as an associate professor of education. He earned the Ph.D. in early childhood education from Florida State University and the M.Ed. in early childhood education and the B.S. in education from College of Charleston.

Kelly T. Lawson of Florence has joined the faculty as an instructor of nursing. She earned the M.S. in nursing from the University of Phoenix, the B.S. in nursing from MUSC (FMU) and the ADN from Florence-Darlington Technical College.

Dr. Erik A. Lowry of Florence has joined the faculty associate professor of education. He earned the Ph.D., Ed.S. and M.Ed. in educational administration from USC and the B.S. in elementary education from Francis Marion University.

Julie S. Mixon of Winterville, N.C. has joined the faculty as an assistant professor of visual arts (photography). She earned the MFA from East Carolina University in Greenville, N.C. and the BFA from Barton College in Wilson, N.C.


Dr. Abigail A. Noble of Florence has joined the faculty as an instructor of mathematics. She earned the Ph.D. in mathematics and the M.S. in applied mathematics from Auburn University and the B.S. in mathematics from LaGrange College in LaGrange, Ga.

Dr. Matthew H. Noble of Florence has joined the faculty as an assistant professor of mathematics. He earned the Ph.D. in mathematics, the M.S. in applied mathematics and the B.S. in mathematics from Auburn University.

Dr. Caroliniana S. Padgett of Athens, Ga. has joined the faculty as an assistant professor of economics. She earned the Ph.D. in economics from USC and the B.A. in economics from the University of Nevada.

Dr. Kay M. Poston of Noblesville, In. has joined the faculty as a professor of accounting. She earned the DBA in accounting, the MAcc and the B.A. in English from the University of Tennessee (Knoxville).

April S. Purvis of Florence has joined the faculty as an instructor of political science. She earned the J.D. from Florida Coastal School of Law and the B.S. in political science from FMU.

Dr. R. Corey Remle of Winston-Salem, N.C. has joined the faculty as an assistant professor of sociology. Remle earned the Ph.D. and M.A. in sociology from Duke University and the B.A. in psychology from New College of Florida.

Amy Rubens of Bloomington In. has joined the faculty as an assistant professor of English. She earned the Ph.D. and the M.A. in English from Indiana University and the B.A. in English from the University of Delaware.

Dr. Frank Rybicki of Valdosta, Ga. has joined the faculty as an assistant professor of mass communications. He earned the Ph.D. in rhetoric and communication studies from Duquesne University, the M.A. in communication management from the University of Southern California and the B.A. in radio and television broadcasting from California State University.

Dr. Jesse Q. Sargent of St. Louis, Mo. has joined the faculty as an assistant professor of psychology. He earned the Ph.D. in cognitive neuroscience from George Washington University and the B.A. in psychology from the University of Vermont.

Dr. Chunyun Wang of Bloomington, In. has joined the faculty as an assistant professor of education. She earned the Ph.D. in health behavior from Indiana University, the M.S. in exercise science from Beijing Sport University and the B.S. in physical education from Wuhan Institute of Physical Education.

Dr. Cedric Worman of Gainsville, Fl. has joined the faculty as an assistant professor of biology. He earned the Ph.D. and M.S. in biology from the University of Florida and the B.S. in animal ecology from Iowa State University of Science and Technology.

Dr. Shayna A. Wrighten of Columbia has joined the faculty as an assistant professor of biology. She earned the Ph.D. in biomedical sciences from USC and the B.S. in neuroscience from Furman University.
