Francis Marion University is now accepting applications for its new Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) degree with a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) or Nurse Educator specialization to begin January 2013.

The deadline for those who will take part in FMU's efforts to address the need for quality and affordable healthcare and promote quality nursing education is Oct. 15.

All applicants must submit the following items:

  • Graduate application for admission and non-refundable application fee;
  • Official transcripts of all undergraduate and graduate work;
  • Appropriate Graduate Record Examination (GRE) scores within the last five years;
  • Two letters of recommendation from professional associates or former professors;

  • Current license to practice nursing in South Carolina or other National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN);
  • Satisfactory criminal background check and drug screen;
  • Health history; and
  • CPR Certification from American Heart Association (AHA).

 “When students graduate from the FNP track, they will be equipped to diagnose and treat patients for common acute illnesses as well as chronic conditions,” said Dr. Ruth Wittmann-Price, chair of FMU’s Department of Nursing. “Our nurse educators will be able to use pedagogical knowledge to educate nurses or future nurses in the clinical and academic areas.”

The curriculum of the Master of Science degree in nursing is designed to develop nurse practitioners and nurse educators with an advanced level of knowledge, skills and abilities to serve the nursing needs of the community and various healthcare environments.

“We are excited about what this will mean for health care, and we anticipate a positive response to the needs of this community,” said Dr. Deborah Hopla, director of the MSN/FNP program.

For additional information about the program or to apply, go to www.fmarion.edu/ academics/graduate program, or call (843) 661-1226. To be guaranteed timely consideration for acceptance, admission materials should be submitted by October 15.
