FMU Concert Band to take the stage at FMU Performing Arts Center

Enjoy a wonderful night of free music at the Francis Marion University Performing Arts Center as the FMU Concert Band performs some classic wind band music on Tuesday Oct. 23 at 7:30 p.m.

The FMU Concert Band, under the direction of Kelly Jokisch, has 56 members. Eighteen of them are FMU students and the other 38 are made up of community members. Of these, 12 are area music educators (band directors, choir directors, music teachers, district music supervisor and other FMU music faculty members) from Florence, Darlington and Lake City and three are retired music teachers or band directors.

The fall concert will open with a spirited concert overture - filled with fanfares.  There will be rhythmical motifs, sincerity and positive energy and a rhapsodic celebration by Robert Sheldon. Also the group will perform a circus March:  Robinson’s Grand Entrée by King – will showcase the low brass section. They will also perform Fortitude by Sean O’Loughlin, a Contemporary band work with mixed meters; a chorale, In Heaven’s Air by Samuel Hazo which was commissioned to tell the story of a death that was accidental and completely unexpected.  The band will take you on a musical journey from a loving one on earth to their transformation of the soul and letting go.  The faculty member feature is:  Rhapsody in Blue by George Gershwin featuring pianist, Dr. Paolo Gualdi.

Don’t miss this chance to enjoy the PAC and the free concert by this wonderful band. The PAC is located in downtown Florence at the intersection of Dargan and Evans Streets.
