FMU Nursing Chair releases book on testing fundamentals

Springer Publishing in New York has released Fundamentals of Nursing Test Success: An Unfolding Case Study Review, written by Chair of Francis Marion University’s Department of Nursing Dr. Ruth A. Wittmann-Price.

Dr. Wittmann-Price co-wrote the book with Frances Cornelius, associate clinical professor, chair of the Master of Nursing (MSN) Advanced Role Department and coordinator of Clinical Nursing Informatics Education at Drexel University in Philadelphia, Pa.

Based on a philosophy of active learning, this innovative text uses unfolding case studies as a compelling vehicle for learning fundamental nursing content. The book provides engaging test review preparation for course success and NCLEX-RN test success. For two consecutive years, 100 percent of the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) graduates at FMU have passed the NCLEX-RN licensure examination on their first attempt under the leadership of Dr. Wittmann-Price.

She is co-editor and chapter contributor of three books, Nursing Education: Foundations for Practice Excellence (2007) (American Journal of Nursing {AJN} Book of the Year Award winner), The Certified Nurse Examination (CNE) Review Manual (2009), and NCLEX-RN EXCEL Test Success through Unfolding Case Study Review (2010).

She has also published Fast facts for Developing a Nursing Academic Portfolio (2012), and Maternal-Child Nursing Test Success: An Unfolding Case Study Review (with Francis H. Cornelius) (2011). Her chapter "The role of the educator," in Role Development for Doctoral Advanced Nursing Practice (Dreher, M. & Glasgow, M. E. S., Eds.) contributed to the book winning the AJN Book of the Year Award, 2011. Dr. Wittmann-Price has also published numerous articles and presents nationally on nursing educational topics as well as offering a Continuing Nursing Education (CNE) review course with Dr. Linda Wilson, assistant dean for special projects, simulation and CNE accreditation at Drexel University.

Dr. Wittmann-Price earned an associate’s degree in applied science and a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Felician College in Lodi, N.J. in 1978 and 1981, respectively. She received a master’s degree as a perinatal clinical nurse specialist from Columbia University in New York in 1983. Dr. Wittmann-Price completed her doctorate in nursing science at Widener University in Chester, Pa. in 2006.
