S.C. Sen. Darrell Jackson to headline MLK celebration at FMU, Jan. 17
Francis Marion University and the Greater Florence Chamber of Commerce will host the 15th annual Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration, Thursday, Jan. 17.
The event will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the McNair Science Building's Chapman Auditorium. Admission is free and the event is open to the public.
The keynote speaker for this event is Sen. Darrell Jackson, Sr., who is also pastor of Bible Way Church of Atlas Road.
After graduating from the Richland County public school system (Dreher High School), he earned the Bachelor of Arts degree in political science with a concentration in public administration from Benedict College.
While a student at Benedict College, he served as president of the Student Government Association, and was the recipient of the Most Distinguished Student Award. He is a 1982 graduate of Columbia International Seminary. In 2000, he received an honorary degree from Richard Stockton College of New Jersey, and in 2002, he received an honorary doctorate degree from his alma mater, Benedict College of Columbia.
