FMU hosts inaugural S.C. Chamber Music Festival
Francis Marion University will host five days of chamber music and lectures featuring FMU faculty and renowned chamber music performers in the Black Box Theatre at the Performing Arts Center in downtown Florence.
The inaugural S.C. Chamber Music Festival is organized by FMU Assistant Professor Dr. Paulo Gualdi who will also play the piano during several of the events. Gualdi told the Patriot, the student newspaper at FMU, "We have invited some top notch world class performers. It is rare to have a group of six musicians all gathered in five days performing."
In addition to Gualdi, FMU faculty performing include Assistant Professor of Music Brandon Goff, composer; Director of Instrumental Activities and Coordinator of the Music Industry Program Terry Roberts, on the horn; and Instructor of Music Dan Hull on the guitar.

Cármelo de los Santos, violin – Brazil (University of New Mexico)
Danijela Zezelj-Gualdi, violin – Serbia (UNC Wilmington)
Heidi Lucas, horn – USA (University of Southern Mississippi)
Sinisa Ciric, viola – Serbia (Georgia Perimeter College)
Martin Gueorguiev, cello - Bulgaria (Oxford College of Emory University)
Marcos Machado, double bass – Brazil (University of Southern Mississippi)
The series begins Monday, Feb. 25 at 7:30 p.m. with a Romantic Soiree with music by Frank and Brahms with Danijela Zezelj-Gualdi on the violin; Lucas, on the horn; and Gualdi on the piano. Tickets are $5.
On Tuesday, Feb. 26 at 6 p.m., there will be a free lecture by Lucas on "Dealing with Performance Anxiety: Setting Yourself Up to Have More Successful Performances.” This event is free.
On Wednesday, Feb. 27 the performance "From Blues to Tango" will highlight music by Gershwin, Garner, Piazzolla and others, featuring a new work by Goff. Tickets are $5.
On Thursday, Feb. 28 at 6 p.m. there is a free Master Class by Machado. This class free.
On Friday, March 1 the performance "Great Masterworks" features music by Schubert and Brahms with Cármelo de los Santos on the violin; Danijela Zezelj-Gualdi on the viola; Gueorguiev on the cello; Machado on the double bass; and Gualdi on the piano. Tickets are $5.
