Belanger named FMU's Distinguished Professor for 2012-13

Announced at a campus banquet recently, this award has been given since the 1975-76 school year and is based upon a faculty member’s contributions to teaching, professional service and scholarly activities.

Of her, FMU President Dr. Fred Carter said, “Kay is deeply committed to her undergraduate and graduate students. For the past 26 years, these students have held her in the highest esteem. She is a knowledgeable and compassionate teacher and scholar who is truly deserving of this recognition.”

The award, named in honor of a former chairman of the FMU Board of Trustees, is the highest honor to be bestowed upon a faculty member. It will be presented at FMU’s spring commencement Saturday, May 4. The award carries a cash prize. As a result of his selection, Belanger will be the FMU nominee for the Governor’s Professor of the Year Award competition next fall.

Belanger joined the Francis Marion faculty in 1987. Her research has appeared in the Coastal Business Review, IJSHE Special Student Edition, Atlantic Economic Journal, and Strategic Management, 9th edition. Her areas of expertise include marketing management, marketing principles, consumer behavior and marketing theory.

She earned the B.S. from FMU, the M.B.A. and Ph.D. from the University of South Carolina.
