Department of Nursing Chair receives national recognition for longstanding dedication to research and academic innovation

Dr. Ruth Wittmann-Price Ph.D., RN, CNS, CNE, FMU's Chair of the Department of Nursing, has been inducted as a fellow into the National League for Nursing's Academy of Nursing Education at the annual National League of Nursing (NLN) Education Summit in Washington, D.C. recently. "Dr. Wittmann-Price is an outstanding nurse-educator and her recent induction as a Fellow of the Academy of Nursing Education, National League for Nursing, recognizes her many contributions to the nursing profession,” said FMU Provost Dr. Richard Chapman. “She provides superb leadership for the nursing program at Francis Marion University, and we commend her for her vision, her expertise, and for her accomplishments as a teacher and a scholar that earned her this national recognition."

Wittmann-Price who joined the FMU faculty in 2010 has been an obstetrical/women’s health nurse for more than 30 years. She is being honored for her longstanding dedication to research and for creatively enhancing the fundamentals of nursing and nurse education.

She is author of Fundamentals of Nursing Test Success: An Unfolding Case Study Review and co-editor and chapter contributor of three books, “Nursing Education: Foundations for Practice Excellence” (2007) (American Journal of Nursing {AJN} Book of the Year Award winner), “The Certified Nurse Examination (CNE) Review Manual” (2009), and “NCLEX-RN EXCEL Test Success through Unfolding Case Study Review” (2010).

Cornelius) (2011). Her chapter, The role of the educator,” in “Role Development for Doctoral Advanced Nursing Practice” (Dreher, M. & Glasgow, M. E. S., Eds.) contributed to the book winning the AJN Book of the Year Award, 2011. Wittmann-Price has also published numerous articles and presents nationally on nursing educational topics.

Wittmann-Price earned an associate’s degree in applied science and a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Felician College in Lodi, N.J. in 1978 and 1981, respectively. She received a master’s degree as a perinatal clinical nurse specialist from Columbia University in New York in 1983. Wittmann-Price completed her doctorate in nursing science at Widener University in Chester, Pa. in 2006.

The NLN established the Academy of Nursing Education in 2007 to foster excellence in nursing education by recognizing and capitalizing on the wisdom of nurse educators who have made significant contributions to the field. The Academy of Nursing Education Review Panel evaluates fellowship candidates in several categories, including innovative teaching, nursing education research and academic leadership. Fellows provide visionary leadership, serve as mentors and support the vision of the NLN.
