John Whittington, D.M.D. (’72) of Marion, was honored by the Francis Marion University’s Department of Biology with an outstanding alumni award during a reception Oct. 15 on the FMU campus.
Whittington received the John S. Boyce Award, named after one of the Biology Department’s first chairpersons. This is the eighth year the Biology Department has held this recognition of outstanding graduates of the biology program. Whittington graduated from Marion High School in 1968, from FMU in 1972 and from the Medical University of South Carolina School College of Dental Medicine in 1975.
He married the former Jane Myers of Scranton. They have two sons: Dr. J. Carson Whittington, who practices with him in Marion and Alex Whittington, who attended FMU and is now a first-year dental student at MUSC.
He has served on numerous local boards and civic organizations, including the American Cancer Society, United Way and the Jaycees.
