FMU Performing Arts Center to host Florence Men's Choral Society for the holidays
The Florence Men’s Choral Society (FMCS) is set to spread holiday cheer when it takes the stage at the Francis Marion University’s Performing Arts Center as part of a new “Community Concert Series” on Friday, Dec. 20 at 7:30 p.m.
Like most events in the community series, tickets to the Holiday show are just $5. Tickets are available at the PAC box office (843-661-4444). The box office is open daily noon to 5 p.m. and up to show time on the night of the show.
Under the direction of Founder and Artistic Director Julian M. Young, the FMCS will present an hour of traditional Christmas carols and family holiday songs. The concert will also include soloists and a string ensemble from a local high school featuring Luke Jordan, the most recent recipient of the FMCS Young Musician Scholarship Fund.
Tickets for each show are only $5, with the exception of an April 27 appearance by the 282nd Army Band from Ft. Jackson. There is no admission charge for that concert.
Young serves as the director of alumni affairs and annual giving at FMU when he isn’t directing this group of 25. His accompanist and assistant director is Betsy T. Johnson.
Upcoming shows in the community series include:
· Jan. 26 – Baritone and spiritual historian Robert Sims. Tickets on sale Dec. 9
· March 2 – Bishop Michael Blue and The Tribe. Tickets on sale Feb. 3
· April 27 – Fort Jackson 282nd Army Band. No admission charge for this event, but tickets may be picked up beginning March 27
