The Francis Marion University Theatre presents Tony Award-winning playwright Christopher Durang’s, “Miss Witherspoon” Thursday-Saturday, April 10-12, in Hyman Fine Arts Center on campus at 7:30 p.m. each night.
The absurdist comedy will be directed by Dr. Dawn Larsen, FMU associate professor of theatre history. Miss Witherspoon’s centers on the travails of Veronica, a woman who found the 1990s to be a frightening place. She was minding her own business when Skylab came crashing down to earth only feet from where she was standing. Giant chickens cross her path chanting “The Sky Is Falling” … and now after death when she expected just to live peacefully in heaven forever and ever, forces there keep trying to make her reincarnate. Only now she finds the world even scarier than when she was when she was alive.
